Welcome Runners to the 7th annual RFC Race
We are looking forward to another exciting year for the Running From Cancer half marathon, 10k, 5K kids 1K and kids Disney Dash. The date this year will be a steamy July 29, 2012 the hottest half marathon around!!! Don't let the heat worry you, we will, and always do have plenty of water along the course. Proceeds from this event go to support the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and Windsor Regional Hospital, Oncology Unit. The RFC crew are excited to announce that we will be sponsoring Transition 2 Betterness . T2B are well known in our community for their work providing comfort and compassion to cancer patients and their families. The RFC has pledged our support for T2B over the next 5 years, and feel confident their goals are well aligned with ours in the need to support our "local " cancer patients and families.
This year all the Running Factory races will be providing t-shirts ONLY to those who pre-register for each event. This means you must register online or in person at the Running Factory on or before EARLY registration cut off July 14/12 to guarantee a t- shirt. The cost of late registration and day of registration will remain the same but will NOT include a t-shirt. So do not delay and miss out on our awesome technical t-shirts.
New for the RFC this year will be single use chip timing. A real treat from the re-usable ankle straps of past years. We will give you more info on these on the day before the event and race day.
Last year the RFC became the 1st race locally to become Ontario certified and USATF certified. This means the half marathon has been officially measured and certified both in Ontario and in the USA. Our half marathon can be used as a qualifier for any race that requires a qualifying time.
Congrats to all runners who participated in the ATB 30k last weekend in Hamilton!!! Great job !!! We wish everyone great luck in all your races this year. We hope 2012 will be another great season for raising " BIG " dollars for cancer and running!!!

Thank you everyone! All our amazing volunteers who worked so hard with such enthusism, we could not put this event on without your help. Saide and I sincerely want to thank you and share with you how proud we are of the RFC volunteers. You make the race special!

We are still counting the money, but things are looking very promising for another substantial donation to the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and Windsor Regional Hospital Oncology program. We will update you with a total when available .

Exciting news for the 6th Annual Running From Cancer Race.........................We will now be an officiallly certified Canadian course and a USATF certified course as well. This means this course will be an official qualifier for any Canadian or American Race.
Remember technical shirts will be available for PRE-registered runners only!!! Don't worry there is still time to register!
Proceeds from this event support the Cancer Centre Foundation and Windsor Regional Hospital Inpatient Oncology program. We keep the money earned "local " helping our own families, friends, neighbors and co-workers. I would like to acknowlege the tremendous support from the staff at the
Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. The water stops are unique, because they are all staff from the Cancer Centre . Thanks to my co-workers for all your help!

May is finally here, that means better weather is here to stay. Congrats to all the Windsor and Essex County runners who participated in the Boston Marathon. Way-to-go!!!! Also good luck to all runners doing a spring marathon!!
Our on-line registration is now open just waiting for you to sign up!! Please check the website from time to time for updates on the RFC and other events coming up.

Dear Runners,
Welcome to our 6th annual Running From Cancer Race. Normally you will always find us on the last sunday of every July... except this year. To avoid the long weekend of August we decided to move the race forward...July 24, 2011. The times, location and routes will all remain the same. We are looking forward to another exciting year and will contiue to update you.
We do respond to all emails, so feel free if you have any questions or comments.
Hope you outdoor winter runners are enduring the cold safely, remember layers, layers layers! Before long spring will be here.

Hi everyone,
Thank you to all who participated in the RFC 2010 race. The weather was not in our favour this year infact it was down right miserable. We felt bad for all those who stood out in the rain at the corners and on the water stops. You guys were troopers!!! Thank you and I know the athletes appreciated your support. We hope all of our volunteers come out and join next July 31, 2011!!
To all our runners you were awesome, and there were some pretty good times out there as well. I guess we take the good weather with the bad, but I seriously hope next year will be better. Thank you for coming out, and to those who have raised pledge money, a very special thank you from the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre and Windsor Regional Hospital ( oncology program). Every dollar helps, and we sincerely appreciate your support.

Welcome Runners ,
Plans are all set for the 2010 Running From Cancer Race. The on line registration will end Friday July 23 but you can still sign up at the Running Factory Saturday also race morning. Race Kit pick up is available Saturday July 24th from 9:30 - 4:00 pm at the Running Factory , but do not forget to pick up your chip time Sunday morning.
There will be plenty of water stops, along the course, also a fire hose just before the 8K marker. Be, prepared, there could be some soakers out there!! Our famous Knights of Columbus pancake breakfast and Tim Hortons goodies are always a hit after a hard run.
Kids, kids, kids you will not want to miss this opportunity to run with your favourite Disney Character. Our Disney friends have been arriving from Disney World to run on Sunday with the children. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Buzz Light Year, Belle, Spiderman and many more have all been training hard and are looking forward to meeting you. It also happens to be Cinderella's birthday Sunday, so we will be having birthday cake and fireworks to make her feel right at home.
The weather forecast is also looking perfect for Sunday morning!! We look forward to seeing you all Sunday!!!

Dear Runners,
Welcome back to our 5th annual Run From Cancer Race. All events; the 5K, 10K , half marathon, Disney 1K and Disney Dash will be offered and follow the same format as previous years.
The half marathon will start at 0700, the 10K and 5K will start at 0800 and the Disney races will be at 0900. The Disney characters have been training all winter and really looking forward to racing with the children this summer!
Our 2010 brochures will be available from the Running Factory also on our website within the next 2 weeks. Also our on line registration will open soon. Stay tuned for more updates!!!

Dear Runners,
Well it is almost time for the 4th annual Running From Cancer Race. Plans are all coming together, the course has recently been re-marked, signs are out , heat is up and the entries are rolling in. We have a few new things to report, this year for the first time we will be going with a technical t-shirt. I am sure you will enjoy wearing them, everywhere!! For the children racing, we have a special treat.......10 Disney Characters will be on hand to meet the children and run the Disney Dash and Disney 1K. Rumor has it, they have been training!!
We will have a special side celebration at the race for Cinderella, who will be celebrating her "19th" birthday. She will be attending a special celebration in Downtown Disney, (" Windsor") the evening before. She has assured us this recent plan and late night festivities will not affect her goal to run the Disney 1K with the children.
As always there will be plenty of water stops, every K ,and several volunteers to look after you. The K of C in Tecumseh will be donating a pancake breakfast so work up a great appetite! Race kit pick-up will be available from the Running Factory saturday July 25/09 from 1000 - 1600.
Last, I will ask that you bring an extra loonie or toonie to donate towards St. Anne's Parish restoration fund. We are in desparate need to raise enough money to keep the bells ringing in Tecumseh.

Dear Runners,
As promised our 4th annual race will be very exciting. Our kids dash and 1K will now be called the................. " Disney Dash" and the " DIsney 1K ". Joining the children's events this year will be some special disney characters, who have been training hard to race. Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Buzz Light Year, Spiderman are a few of the Disney friends who will be racing with the children this summer. It will be FUN FUN FUN!!
The Running From Cancer Committee is also planning a pasta benefit, June 3, 2009 from 5:00pm - 8:00pm at the Ciociaro Club. The pasta benefit will be the kick-off for the 4th ANNUAL RUNNING FROM CANCER, and will feature a sneak visit from Disney World. Let anyone with children know this pasta benefit will be fun for families, with raffles and door prizes and of-course, our DISNEY CHARACTERS!
Proceeds from the Pasta Benefit will also go to support the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre & Windsor Regional Hospital - Oncology Program.
Tickets for the Pasta Benefit are available at the Running Factory.

Running >From Cancer has done it again................................over 20,000.00 and money is still coming in! It's awesome to see the incredible support from our community! We sincerely appreciate your generousity! We had a fantastic turn out........................... over 500 participants, 100 volunteers and perfect weather! We were so excited to add the childrens races, and even more thrilled watching them come through the finish line. They were absolutely precious!
Thanks to all of you who collected donations. Every dollar counts, your dedication to raising pledges is greatly appreciated. Donations over $ 20.00 will receive a tax receipt within the next 2 months.

Dear Runners,
Just over 1 week until the 3rd annual RFC Race!! Wow time is flying!!! Don't forget to register to guarantee a shirt!
Big News................The RFC Race will now support the Windsor Regional Hospital (oncology program ) as well as the Cancer Centre. The inpatient and out patient oncology programs work in unison, and we feel stronger that our proceeds support both.
We would like to thank Ron Foster and Gisele Sullens for their enthusiasm and support in our endeavour. The kick-off announcement with the event organizers, Shelley McKee, myself Maria Eid and one of our sponsors, Darcy Haggith of Infinit Nutrition, did a 100 mile bike ride in the lobby of Met hospital to raise awareness and money for the event.
The 100 mile ride was a great success and a lot of fun. Thank you to all who came out to support the ride.

Can't believe it's all most July, already! Well I'm sure you know the brochures are out at various locations; The Running Factory, New balance, The Cancer Centre also Met Hospital, Sobey's St Clair Beach, Mercedes Benz and Johnny's Gas Bar in Leamington.

Hey Runners!
Hope training is going well and preparations are well underway for the first race of the season, the Spring Thaw, on March 2nd.
Personally, we have made two exciting adaptations to our own race. We are now the fifth race in the Running Factory Race series and are looking forward to welcoming many first time Running From Cancer racers. Also, we have added a Kid's Dash for our junior athletes.
As a quick note, the Running From Cancer Race will start with the half marathon at 07:00 am on July 27, 2008, not 08:00am as advertised in the Running Factory brochure.

Congratulations Runners!
I would like to thank all the runners and walkers who participated in the 2nd Annual Running from Cancer Race. You are all awesome! It is wonderful to have this kind of spirit in our community, people like yourselves willing to race in support of our Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. We have raised over & 21,500.00 and donations are still coming in!!!!! Amazing!!!! You have all contributed to this total, and we sincerely want to thank you. We look forward to having you all back next year July 27, 2008!

A frequently asked question: Do I need to register early if I have over $ 100.00 in pledge money?
The answer, Yes. Simply tear off the registration portion and indicate you are over 100.00 in pledge incentives.
The Late fee does NOT apply if you are over 100.00 in pledge money.

Running From Cancer
Dear Runners,
Welcome to the second annual Running From Cancer Race. Plans a re well underway for this year's event. With a few changes, we hope to accommodate the needs and concerns of our athletes. I sincerely apologize for the delay and inconsistency of our previous website. Thanks to the creative design team at Mainstream Marketing, we can finally provide a new and improved site.
With the success of year 1 we have our work cut out for us.. Having a half marathon the last Sunday of every July means heat....lots of heat!!!!!! This year our half marathon will start 1 hour earlier, 0700. The 10k, 5k and Walk Around The Block will all start at 0800. There will also be more aide stations, the exact locations will be posted in our Race Course Link in the next few months.
Great News!! The Running From Cancer Race will be exclusively supplied by Infinit Nutrition Product! This is a premium quality sport drink that allows athletes the ability to customize their product to best suit their metabolic needs. Great Job to all the athletes who participated in today's first anual Running From Cancer 5k, 10k. half marathon and walk around the block Race.

Running From Cancer
A letter from the Race Directors:
The Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation is the fundraising arm for the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre. The funds raised go to support patient programs and equipment at the Cancer Centre. We are ecstatic to introduce to the residents of Windsor and Essex County a brand new race entitled ‘Running From Cancer’, Tecumseh’s 1st annual 5k, 10k, ½ marathon and walk around the block. This is a new race being added to the local race circuit. Our goal is to provide a challenging and fun filled family event while raising much-needed funds for our own Cancer Centre. All abilities are encouraged, from the elite athletes to the occasional walkers. Because cancer will inevitably touch all or our lives we anticipate the effects of this race to be monumental and life changing. In the past five years there has been a 47% increase in visits to our Centre. Last year almost 58,000 people came to our Centre for help. In this, our inaugural year we hope to have over 250 participants and volunteers.
All proceeds raised from the ‘Running From Cancer’ event will go towards:
Ensuring that our medical staff keep up to date with the most current state of the art technology and equipment.
Provide for continued funding for our clinical trials team and their ongoing research regarding cancer issues.
Promoting the utmost quality of care with respect and dignity for our patients and their families.
